Yesterday in Health class we focused in on the importance of weight training, and actually did some lifting. That sounds funny. Well more specifically we used some machines. I have learned how important it is for women to do some sort of weight training b/c it prevents bone loss. I am at a big risk for bone loss for several reasons. I don't get enough calcium, I have small bones, and I nursed both my children for a VERY long time. I was either pregnant, nursing, or both for 6 years straight. I wouldn't have traded it for anything, but I do wished I had paid more attention to MY nutrition. Better late than never right?
So the weight thing was actually kinda fun. I am sore today, but not miserable, and boy am I WEAK!!!(I new this already, my seven year old girl can beat me up.) So the most exciting thing for me was what I accomplished after the weights. I ran a consecutive mile. All at once, not split up, and I am still alive. I lived to tell the tale. I don't know if it was the weight lifting warm up, or the double puff of the inhailer before hand that allowed me to run for so long, but it was so great. I think I might have been able to keep going for a little while longer too, but I was afraid to push it too far. Man, now I REALLY want a treadmill. I don't have the time or $ for a gym membership, and my class is going to end in a month. I'll just have to keep looking for a used one. I can't wait to try and do it again!!!
